Current Fundraiser- Vianna De Carvalho
Vianna De Carvalho- a daycare facility in Balneario Camboriu, Brasil, was founded in 1985 to assist the working mothers care for their children. They started with 35 kids, and now there are 220 children, ages 1 month to 8 years old. In order to qualify for the special needs daycare, the combined household is less than $350 per month which is less than $4,200 per year! Once admitted, all services and food is free for the children. The majority is single mothers or wives that have unemployed husbands. The children receive great care and support from the teachers to create an environment to facilitate learning and growth. The kids are normally happy and bouncing around. Religion is not a factor, everyone is welcome, and human nature is emphasized. The teachers use cultural values, traditions, songs to express and encourage creativity, with specific regards to art and music. Some of the children have been sexually or mentally abused and there is a psychologist on staff that will assist these children heal their wounds. They serve 5 meals a day to each child, totaling 1200 meals a day for all children and staff. All meals include fruits and vegetables, and proper hygiene is emphasized- they brush their teeth after meals and take showers before they go home. The daycare is assisted from the Federal Government in Brasil, but that assistance covers only half of their expenses. The other half is philanthropic in origin, donations from locals or anyone will to give. Often the stock of food is low and places stress on all the administrators. Volunteers will go to the local shop owners to ask for donations, at that time they have no one else to turn to.
Jennifer will be traveling to Vianna De Carvalho in October for 3 weeks. It is our goal to raise money to help them pay for food and everyday expenses. With each transaction at Daydreams, we will ask you if you would like to donate $1 to Help Us Help Others. Please be sure to fill out a pink form (located at register) with your family name or feel free to keep your donation anonymous. Those cards will be carried to Brasil and offered to the volunteers so they know we care. Feel free to add a personal message on the back!
Thank you for caring, your concern and any monies you are willing to donate.
